As healthcare providers committed to comprehensive care, our recent trip to Singapore was more than just a sightseeing adventure—it was an opportunity to investigate travel medicine practices and expand our referral network for patients spending time in the Lion City. We work as a registered nurse and the practice manager at Dr Deb’s in Brisbane. Visiting other providers was a labour of love as we continue to expand our network of trusted partners, with the goal to help our patients receive the comprehensive care they need, no matter where their travels may take them.
Our exploration led us to two clinics specialising in travel health, each offering unique approaches and services. The first among them was the Traveller's Health & Vaccination Clinic (THVC), an establishment attached to a hospital, boasting a reputation for excellence in healthcare. However, as we delved deeper into our investigation, we discovered that THVC's affiliation with the hospital might present challenges for some patients. Navigating the complexities of a hospital setting, especially for travellers unfamiliar with the Singaporean healthcare system, could potentially cause difficulties for individuals seeking timely and convenient travel health services.
While THVC undoubtedly offers top-notch care and a comprehensive range of services, including vaccinations and pre-travel consultations, we recognised that accessibility may be difficult, especially for travellers on tight schedules or those with mobility issues. For some, the thought of navigating a hospital environment might be daunting.
In a world where convenience and efficiency are key, some travellers may look for streamlined experiences that still prioritise their health and well-being every step of the way. This led us to Clari Health Travel Clinic—in the heart of Singapore's bustling buildings. Despite being a bit tricky to find, Clari Health's nurse-led approach to travel medicine immediately caught our attention. While it may not boast the institutional backing of THVC, Clari Health's focus on accessibility whilst not sacrificing personalised care, may make it a preferred choice for travellers seeking peace of mind before continuing on their journeys.
The entrance to Clari Health, marked by an unassuming door, belied the cosy clinic that awaited within. Stepping through that doorway led us into a waiting area with seating for 6-8 people. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They informed us that in the coming year their clinic will be expanding and moving to Singapore’s Chinatown as there is a greater need for travel medicine services for the residents living and working in that area.
Through our day-to-day practice at Dr Debs’, it is not uncommon for us to see patients considering finishing their vaccination courses during their journey. As such, we have attached the price list we were provided on the 4th of March 2024.
Notable mention is that for persons needing to access the Dengue fever vaccine, it may be quite cost-effective to receive a dose in Singapore. (Please note that Dengue vaccination is not suitable for everyone and must always be discussed with your Travel medicine provider). A nurse consultation would be required at Clari health before vaccines are given.
In Conclusion, we are aware that navigating travel health options can sometimes be as complicated as preparing a travel itinerary. Clinics like Clari Health, and THVC in Singapore, mean that Australian travellers transiting Singapore can rest assured that their health and well-being are in capable hands, despite the unfamiliar terrain.
